  • We are fully licensed and adhere to the Kokoda Track Trekking Code of Conduct and the laws and regulations of both Australia and PNG.
    We hold KTA Licence No.3.
  • Our business is registered in Australia as Kokoda Spirit Pty Ltd, and we are registered with the PNG Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) with our Foreign Enterprise Certification (FEC) Certification Number: 105284 and with the PNG Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) in PNG as Kokoda Spirit PNG Limited.
  • We also carry a $20 million Public Liability Policy.
  • We have handled specific treks across Kokoda including organising and facilitating Paralympian Kurt Fearnley’s crawl across Kokoda and 4 x Paralympian Michael Milton to trek Kokoda on crutches.
  • We have facilitated many activities for the ADF (Australian Defence Force) including leading four current serving ADF Brigadiers (One-star Generals) across Kokoda in a private trek.
  • We also recently worked with the Australian War College as we led and delivered historical battlefield briefings and operations to the team as they participated in a training trek from Owers’ Corner to Imita Ridge and return.
  • We also worked with members of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and ADF members out of Murray and Goldie barracks in Port Moresby on one day training sessions from Owers’ Corner to Imita Ridge return.

  • We have also facilitated on 4 occasions the Coast-to-Coast Kokoda trek. Where we travel from the Northern Beaches of Buna to Kokoda by mountain bike then trek across Kokoda to Owers’ Corner before riding down to Port Moresby. This covers the complete battles of Kokoda and the Northern Beaches.

  • Our Porters and Guides are paid above the recommended Kokoda Track Authority rate and either receive return flight to Port Moresby or Kokoda or paid walk back fee on the completion of their trek.
  • Our Porters and Guides also carry less weight than the recommended amount of the Kokoda Track Authority (KTA)
  • We make direct payments to campsite/landowners for Village campsite fees for trekkers and porters.
  • We purchase a Kokoda Track Authority permit for every trekker.
  • We operate within the laws and requirements of both countries and pay our tax in both Australia and PNG.
  • We do not subcontract out our Kokoda Trail logistics in PNG to third party organisations.

  • Our locally based Kokoda PNG Guides were born or raised along the Kokoda Track corridor or Northern Beaches areas and are all qualified, trained, and English speaking.
    Naturally they have an intimate knowledge of the Kokoda Track and can show our Kokoda Trail trekkers things that you wouldn’t otherwise discover.
  • Kokoda Spirit believes passionately in responsible travel and promotes this through the development of sustainable eco-trekking along the Kokoda Track.
  • Kokoda Spirit where possible sources its food from local suppliers and markets to reduce the amount of packaging.
  • All rubbish on the track is burnt, composted, or carried out and disposed of in garbage’s in Port Moresby.
  • Kokoda Spirit employs a waste porter to carry left over rubbish items off the track.
  • Our camping equipment on the track, is washed and used again on multiple treks to reduce waste.
  • This commitment will enable us to assist the local Koiari and Orokaiva people develop the skills and experience to gain employment and develop eco-tourism business across the Kokoda Track.
  • We also believe that we should also learn and respect the culture and the customs of the country we are visiting so that we do not offend local people along Kokoda.
  • We ensure that local Kokoda people benefit economically from Kokoda Trail tours by employing them as porters, cooks, leaders, and guides.
  • We also train our Kokoda Trail staff in hospitality, customer service, and first aid and assist them with both education and health.
