Kokoda Spirit was built from the ground up in 2004.

We started with a passion for adventure and for Australia’s rich military history.

In 2004 we made our first trek across the Kokoda Trail and we were captivated by the spectacular beauty of the Kokoda Trail, the extraordinary history, ferocious fighting and diabolical conditions that the men of Kokoda had to endure.

We fell in love with the people and communities along the Kokoda Trail and the stories of the mighty Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels who played such a crucial role in the ultimate success of the Kokoda Campaign.

Kokoda Spirit was founded with some of the following key values.

1) Telling the Kokoda Trail story accurately, authentically with passion, purpose, and significance from the Australian, Papua New Guinean and Japanese perspective.

2) Creating safe and viable opportunities and support for all, especially our Kokoda Spirit Porters and Guides and the Communities along the Kokoda Track.

3) Professional planning and facilitation of our world class Kokoda Trail tours with a focus on pre–Kokoda Trail trek preparation and safety for our Kokoda Spirit trekkers and our Kokoda Trail tour staff.

  • We have facilitated many activities for the ADF (Australian Defence Force) including leading four current serving ADF Brigadiers across Kokoda in a private trek.
  • We have organised and led Exercise Kanga Return 25 across Kokoda for the famous 39th Battalion.
  • We have organised and led the Kokoda trek for the Australian Army Adelaide University Regiment.
  • We have handled specific treks across Kokoda including organising and facilitating Paralympian Kurt Fearnley’s crawl across Kokoda and 4 x Paralympian Michael Milton to trek Kokoda on crutches.
  • We also recently worked with the Australian War College as we led and delivered historical battlefield briefings and operations to the team as they participated in a training trek from Owers’ Corner to Imita Ridge and return.
  • We also worked with members of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and ADF members out of Murray and Goldie barracks in Port Moresby on one day training sessions from Owers’ Corner to Imita Ridge return.
  • We also facilitated a private Kokoda trek for 4 Australian Defence Force Colonels.
  • You can check out our testimonials on our web site or under our Google reviews. https://www.kokodaspirit.com.au/leadership-testimonials/ .
  • The Mark Hughes Foundation Back-to-Back Kokoda.
  • We have also facilitated on 4 occasions the Coast-to-Coast Kokoda trek. Where we travel from the Northern Beaches of Buna to Kokoda by mountain bike then trek across Kokoda to Owers’ Corner before riding down to Port Moresby. This covers the complete battles of Kokoda and the Northern Beaches.
  • We also provide specific treks for Schools, Youth Leadership, and organisations.

Our business is registered in Australia as Kokoda Spirit Pty Ltd, and we are registered with the PNG Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) with our Foreign Enterprise Certification (FEC) Certification Number: 105284 and with the PNG Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) in PNG as Kokoda Spirit PNG Limited.

We would like to sincerely thank those who have trekked Kokoda Track with us, walked along side us and helped us to help others succeed. To watch others, achieve what is sometimes an extraordinary lifetime dream or what once would have been an impossible task is absolutely mind blowing. We are continually inspired by the people and the stories we are surrounded by.

One thing is for sure … likeminded people come together in challenging circumstances, and at times we are privileged enough to witness lives changing. Trekking is an empowering lifestyle, how lucky are we!

We Look Forward To Sharing This Amazing Story Across The Kokoda Track
