Stand on the highest point in Papua New Guinea
Summit at 4,509 metres
This is not a sightseeing walk — it’s a genuine mountain challenge that tests your legs, lungs, and resolve, then rewards you with one of the most powerful summit sunrises in the region.
Climb higher. Dig deeper. Earn the summit.
Mount Wilhelm isn’t about speed or comfort — it’s about commitment. If you’re ready to step beyond your limits and achieve something truly meaningful, this mountain adventure is for you.
Rising to 4,509 metres, Mount Wilhelm is the highest peak in Papua New Guinea and one of the great climbing challenges in the region. The journey begins in the remote Highlands, moving through subsistence villages and dense rainforest before climbing into moss forest, alpine grasslands, and exposed high-altitude terrain.
Each day brings a noticeable shift — in landscape, temperature, and intensity. Summit day starts in darkness.
Under headlamps, you climb steadily toward the peak, reaching the summit at sunrise. From the top, the Highlands unfold in every direction — a moment that makes the effort, fatigue, and early start more than worthwhile.
This climb demands physical preparation, mental resilience, and teamwork. It strips away distractions and comfort, leaving you with a raw, honest mountain experience — and a deep sense of accomplishment few ever earn.
When is the best time to trek Mt Wilhelm?
The primary and best trekking season for Mount Wilhelm is from June through September to early October.
The shoulder season is generally considered from April and May and October, though conditions are more variable.
November to March is the Wet Season and not a great time to climb Mt Wilhelm due to heavy downpours, slippery mud, low cloud visibility, and difficult approach road conditions.

Acclimatisation Trek | Lakes & Base Camp Approach
(Highest point: approx. 3,580m)
Today is dedicated to acclimatisation, a critical part of safely climbing Mount Wilhelm. After breakfast, we set out on a trek through the forest region, gradually gaining altitude and allowing the body to adjust.
The walk takes approximately four hours of acclimatisation. This day is about pacing, hydration, and listening to your body. In the evening, we conduct a pre-trek briefing, check gear, and prepare for the climb ahead before another early night.
Accommodation: Betty’s Lodge

Day 03
Trek to Base Camp
(Base Camp: 3,580m)
Today we begin the climb in earnest, trekking steadily from Betty’s Lodge up to Base Camp. After lunch and a little rest,we trek up to the second lake to acclimatise before returning to our base camp accommodation. The pace is intentionally slow to support acclimatisation, with regular breaks to hydrate and recover.
Conditions become cooler and more alpine as we gain altitude. Base Camp accommodation is very basic, so it’s essential that wet weather gear and a suitable sleeping bag are on hand.
The afternoon is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for the summit push.
