Walk in the Footsteps of Heroes — With Experience You Can Trust. (With Australian led dates)
FULL EXPLANATION
AUSTRALIAN-LED KOKODA TREKS
Experience Matters on Kokoda
There is a significant difference between walking the Kokoda Track and leading people safely and professionally across it.
Kokoda Spirit has been operating on the Kokoda Track since 2004. Over more than two decades, we have successfully guided thousands of Australians across the original wartime Track — from first-time trekkers and families to schools, Australian Defence Force personnel, elite sporting teams, corporate groups and charities.
Our Australian-led treks combine experienced leadership with outstanding Papua New Guinean support teams, detailed historical interpretation and a genuine understanding of the Track, its people and its culture.

EXPERIENCED AUSTRALIAN LEADERSHIP
Our Australian trek leaders are selected for far more than their ability to walk Kokoda.
They are experienced leaders who understand the responsibility that comes with taking a group into one of the most demanding trekking environments in our region. They are professional, approachable and committed to helping every trekker get the most from their Kokoda experience.
Our Australian leaders come from diverse backgrounds including the Australian Defence Force, education, business, sport and community leadership. They are supported throughout the journey by our highly experienced Papua New Guinean guides, porters and support crews.
Together, they form a team with one objective — to deliver an exceptional Kokoda experience safely, professionally and respectfully.

MORE THAN MILITARY HISTORY
Understanding what happened along the Kokoda Track in 1942 is an essential part of the journey.
Our guides don’t simply recite dates and battlefield statistics. We take you to the ground where the campaign unfolded and explain the people, decisions, terrain and events that shaped it.
From Kokoda and Isurava to Brigade Hill, Ioribaiwa, Imita Ridge and Owers’ Corner, we help bring the stories of the Australian soldiers, Papua New Guineans and others who experienced the campaign to life.
It is about understanding why these places matter.
EXPERIENCE YOU CAN TRUST
Kokoda Spirit’s experience has been built on the Track since 2004.
Our Managing Director, Wayne Wetherall, has completed more than 100 full Kokoda crossings and spent thousands of kilometres and hundreds of nights on the Track. His experience includes decades of historical research, battlefield exploration and conversations with Australian and Japanese veterans of the Pacific War.
That experience extends throughout the organisation.
Kokoda Spirit has been trusted to deliver Kokoda programs for Australian Defence Force personnel, the Australian War College, schools, elite sporting organisations, charities and leadership groups — as well as thousands of individual Australians undertaking their own Kokoda journey.
AUSTRALIAN LED PAPUA NEW GUINEAN SUPPORTED
An Australian-led trek should never diminish the essential role Papua New Guineans play in the Kokoda experience.
Our Australian trek leaders work alongside our experienced PNG guides, porters, cooks and support teams. Their knowledge of the land, communities and culture is invaluable, and their contribution is central to every Kokoda Spirit expedition.
It is a partnership we have developed over more than two decades of continuous operations in Papua New Guinea.
