PNG’s Kokoda to get boost to services

Services to Papua New Guinea’s Kokoda, at the head of the famous Kokoda Track, are to get a boost.

The station at the north end of the track will be converted into a township for the people of Sohe District.

The MP for Sohe and vice-Minister for Treasury, Delilah Gore, made the announcement during an official visit to Kokoda to celebrate …Papua New Guinea’s 38th independence anniversary.

She says the government has already allocated over 198-thousand US dollars towards doing up government staff houses and administration blocks at the station.

She says Kokoda is in a strategic location and is just waiting to be tapped into.

The MP says the station will also be reconnected to power and other vital services.

The 96 kilometre Kokoda Track is trekked by thousands of people every year.
